Everything you need to know about getting started learning how to play the guitar, such as how to buy your first guitar, how to change your guitar strings, how to tune, and more!
If you are an aspiring guitar player you most likely have a favorite style of music that you want to learn how to play. Styles come and go or just transition into something different than when they started (take country music, for example) but the basic guitar fundamentals, such as strumming with your thumb and fingers or using a pick never go away or change.
“BUT!” I can hear you saying now…what if I want to learn country right now? Or…”Country? No way! I want some good old rock and roll!”
Whether country, blues, heavy metal, alternative rock, jazz…whatever the style or genre may be I always suggest…start with the fundamentals and then build from there.
A simple analogy is a house. When you build a house you first pour a foundation. The foundation has to be solid and strong. If your foundation is weak it will start to crack and your house will have some serious problems!
Same goes for learning to play the guitar (especially if you want to learn guitar fast!) Get your foundation (all the basic guitar playing skills) strong and you can then branch out into any style you like and never look back!
Uh-oh! You’ve lost your guitar tuner…or you just don’t have one. What are you going to do? Can you tune without a guitar tuner?
In this video I’ll walk you through how to tune your guitar using the 6th string as your guide. Then I’ll show you how I learned to check my tuning with a couple of simple songs we all know, “Here Comes the Bride” and “Kumbaya.”
